Abigail's Divine Comedy

If there's one thing I love more than literature and history, it's making fun of both of them. Over the past few years, I've thoroughly enjoyed @Joe Hegyes' Abigail Williams impressions, and I am so thrilled there's now a web series. I just wish I could have gone to the screening in Salem!

Personal lore corner:

After reading The Witch of Blackbird Pond in 6th grade, I got very into the history of the Salem Witch Trials.

Said interest picked back up when I got the part of Mercy Lewis in a local theatre's production of The Crucible my senior year of high school. We are talking reading every non-fiction and historical fiction book at the library and watching every documentary about the trials. [Ok, technically I was cast just as one of the random background "Mary Warren, why are you hurting us" girls. But the actress playing ML was messing around too much backstage to hear her cue during rehearsals like a week before opening night, so I went on instead, and the director decided to bump me to playing the part for a few of the performances.]

As it turns out, my mother-in-law is from Beverly, is descended from the Balch family (famous for having one of its members get ~fatally attacked by witches~ in 1690), and she basically grew up playing in the Rev. Hale House because her friend's parents were the caretakers. I have done my best to hide my freak flag from her, but I don't think I've ever fully succeeded.

Anyways, in 2020 I did a podcast episode about the Winona Ryder/Daniel Day Lewis movie version, and I'm pretty my fixation really comes through in it.

But more importantly, go watch "Abigail's Divine Comedy" NOW!
